The Myanmar Archaeology Department recorded 2217 temples. Bagan is one of the most amazing archaeological site in Asia. Bagan was one of the most developed ancient capital of several ancient kingdoms in Burma. From the 9th to 13th centuries Bagan was the capital of the Kingdom of Pagan. Between the 11th and 13th centuries were built whopping 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains alone. Nowadays more than 2200 temples and pagodas still survive and you can visit them at any time. These wonderful ruins cover an area of 42 square km.
